Flatiron Institute

Life Sciences | Education/Cultural

L&K worked with the Flatiron Institute, a research division of the Simon’s Foundation, to build their 120,000 sf science research center in New York City. To support the institute’s groundbreaking work in modern computational science, we constructed application-specific labs, research, and conference facilities. The project required full floor interior demolition, new infrastructure, and the installation of a UPS data center. The conference and amenities space feature an auditorium with stadium seating and full audio-visual acoustic walls, a cafeteria and dining floor, a board room with private 2-floor elevators. Signature features of the project include a glass egress staircase spanning the entire building and a new roof terrace built with built-in benches, tiered amphitheater style seating and sustainability crafted landscaping.
